Who God Is

God is all powerful, all knowledgeable, everywhere at the same time, one who has no beginning and no ending, one who is all pure and Holy, and one who is perfect in his judgment and all loving. In the Bible God told Moses to call him “I Am” meaning that he is the ONLY true and living God.

He is the creator of all things, including mankind. It is easy to prove that God exists, because he created within every person the burning question, where did I come from?

26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness. They will rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the livestock, the whole earth, and the creatures that crawl on the earth.”

27 So God created man
in his own image;
he created him in the image of God;
he created them male and female.

Genesis 1:26-27

God made humanity in His image with the intention to have an eternal relationship.

Unlike the rest of Creation, humanity was created with one unique characteristic, a soul that lives for eternity. One with the ability to feel, make decisions, and have relationships with other humans. But the most important, is the decision to love God and have a relationship with Him, this is not forced upon us but rather a choice.

Unfortunately, humanity exercised their freedom of choice to disobey Gods request to not eat of one tree and this led to a disconnect from our Creator.

8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden at the time of the evening breeze, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 So the Lord God called out to the man and said to him, “Where are you?”

10 And he said, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid.”

11 Then he asked, “Who told you that you were naked? Did you eat from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”

12 The man replied, “The woman you gave to be with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate.”

Genesis 1:26-27

This original act of disobedience leads to sin entering into humanity’s bloodline (Romans 5:12-14, CSB). Sin is now a part of our nature which is the cause of us wanting to lie, steal, cheat, and so on. It is not our acts that define us as sinners but rather our sinful nature. You can never do enough good to go to Heaven and you can never do enough bad to go to Hell.

This sinful nature is what separates us from having a relationship with God. For He is perfect and sinless and we are not. In and of ourselves we cannot change our nature but God had a plan that provides a way for us to connect back to Him.

18 For God’s wrath is revealed from heaven against all godlessness and unrighteousness of people who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth, 19 since what can be known about God is evident among them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, that is, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen since the creation of the world, being understood through what he has made. As a result, people are without excuse. 21 For though they knew God, they did not glorify him as God or show gratitude. Instead, their thinking became worthless, and their senseless hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man, birds, four-footed animals, and reptiles.

Our Separation From God

Jesus is God’s one and only Son, He is the same in essence and power as God the Father and possesses all the same qualities that God does. Jesus has no beginning and will have no end. Jesus is sinless, even though He has a physical body and He is the definition of true, pure unconditional love.

Jesus left heaven and was born as a physical man to live a sinless life for 33 years. Jesus’ actions and words proved to people that he is God, many of His actions resulted in miracles, and His spoken words would often convey information that only God Himself would know.

Jesus arose from being dead for three days to prove not only did He have the power to lay down His life, but to pick it back up again!

The only person that possesses the power required to change our sinful nature is Jesus and Him alone. This is so because Jesus is humanity’s spiritual judge. It is important to understand that this is a decision that only you can make with Him while you are alive and it is your choice to do so.

9 For the entire fullness of God’s nature dwells bodily in Christ,

Colossians 2:9

1 John 1:1-4

What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have observed and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— 2 that life was revealed, and we have seen it and we testify and declare to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us— 3 what we have seen and heard we also declare to you, so that you may also have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 4 We are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.

John 5:22

Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection is the only way that can connect you back to God.

This act of disobedience resulted in a sin debt to God that we cannot satisfy on our own. This debt of sin is so powerful and far reaching that humanity in and of ourselves have nothing good to offer God. The payment for this debt can only be paid for through what Jesus did for us.

21 But now, apart from the law, the righteousness of God has been revealed, attested by the Law and the Prophets. 22 The righteousness of God is through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe, since there is no distinction. 23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God; 24 they are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. 25 God presented him as the mercy seat by his blood, through faith, to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his restraint God passed over the sins previously committed. 26 God presented him to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so that he would be just and justify the one who has faith in Jesus.

Romans 3:21-26

This is God’s provision for connecting us back to Him:

Jesus was the exact opposite of Adam (the first man) in that Adam’s one act of disobedience affected all mankind by changing our nature from one that is sinful to one that is sinless. Jesus’ death and resurrection possess one quality that is similar to Adam in that His death has the ability to reverse our sinful nature. His sacrifice impacts all of mankind, and that is, He is the only one that can restore our nature from the one that is sinful, back to one that is righteous or sinless and forgiven.

Read aloud or to yourself the following verses. Every time you see a blank put your name in that place.

“9 If {your name} confesses with his/her mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believes in {your name} heart that God raised him from the dead, {your name} will be saved. 10 {your name} believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and {your name} confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame, 12 since there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, because the same Lord of all richly blesses all who call on him. 13 For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:9-13, CSB)

If you were to stand before Jesus Christ right now, and He were to ask you, “ Why should I let you into heaven”, what would you say? We call this the eternal question that demands an eternal answer. Below is the answer on how to connect back to God.

15 so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. 16 For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Anyone who believes in him is not condemned, but anyone who does not believe is already condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.

John 3:15-18

You must believe that the death of Jesus was the fulfillment of God’s plan for the payment of sin. In turn you must be willing to confess that you have a sinful nature and that Jesus is the only one that can satisfy this debt.

The faith part is very important here, your faith must be placed in Jesus Christ alone, this is an action on your part for the plan to work. There is no other name or individual that can provide this forgiveness, it is something that you cannot obtain by actions on your behalf, and there is no other philosophy or religion that can take the place of God’s plan (Acts 4:12, CSB). Once you ask Jesus to forgive you, He will. He will not force the issue, but he will draw you to himself because He loves and desires to have this relationship with you. He does not want you to be separated from Him and be punished forever (John 3:17 CSB). Jesus desires to be the only Lord and King in your life and for you to live your life in a way that it shows Him and others that you are His child.

These verses are a promise. It doesn’t say you might be saved. It doesn’t say if you are good you will be saved. It doesn’t say if you are baptized you will be saved. It doesn’t say if you join a religion you will be saved. This promise stands alone that by faith in Jesus provision is enough.

It is commitment time, it is time to have a personal conversation with Jesus. Prayer does not have to be scripted or perfect but rather a conversation. Below is a sample prayer on how you can connect to God.

Dear Jesus, Thank you for creating me, giving me life, and loving me unconditionally for who I am. I understand that you alone are God and that you want a relationship with me. I know I am a sinner and that I am not perfect. Thank you for dying on the cross for me to take away my sin so that I can have a relationship with you. By faith I ask that you forgive me of those sins and I claim this promise for my very own that if I ask you, you will save me. I believe and trust in your plan for my very own. Amen.
